Quick Tabata Cardio Workout

Tabata is a great tool for upping your intensity and getting in a great, quick workout.  The workout portion itself is just 4 minutes.  Of course, you'll want to warm up for 3-10 minutes beforehand and spend at least 3 minutes on a cool down. So, all in all, you could have a great cardio workout done in 10 minutes.

Here's how it works:

Pick a cardio exercise that you can jump in and out of quickly.  I'll post some ideas below.
You'll need a stop watch or some way to time in SECONDS.
Alternate 8 rounds of :20 seconds high intensity work/:10 seconds light recovery

For example, :20 seconds of high knees/:10 seconds walking in place for 8 rounds with no rest in between.

Here are some other ideas you might try:
  • Run/jog
  • Jumping Jacks
  • Mountain Climbers
  • Box Jumps
  • Stair Climbs
  • Jump Rope
  • Walking Lunges
  • Broad Jumps
  • Jump Squats
  • Whatever comes to mind!
  • And yes, you can do this with strength training moves as well!
